Acer, one of largest PC vendor and produsen of cheaper laptop, has signed an agreement to buy one of smartphone maker E-Ten Information System (Taiwan).

This acquisition will put Acer to be a one of player in handheld devices, including smartphones and GPS devices.

“The acquisition of E-Ten will allow Acer to play a key role in the development of the dynamic, fast-evolving market of smart handheld devices as well as ultra mobile devices in the future and will help bring Acer’s cutting edge mobile solutions to an even wider audience,” Acer said in a statement.

So, we wait and see what is the R&D produced by Acer in the future in handheld areas.
